Cyber Support for women & children

On December 26, 2022, BLAST arranged an idea-sharing meeting, to address the prevailing issue of online violence targeting women and children. Subsequent to the discussions held during the meeting, a platform named 'Cyber Support for women and children -CSWC' was established on 2023, comprising 14 organizations dedicated to safeguarding digital rights.

Since Bangladesh is shifting towards digitalization, the use of the internet has now reached both urban areas and marginalized communities. In that context, the protection of our digital rights is needed now more than ever. A considerable number of women and children endure online violence on a daily basis, yet they refrain from taking necessary measures to address or alleviate the situation.

Cyber violence is a serious form of abuse where digital platforms are used to harm, intimidate, or silence individuals. It includes acts such as online harassment, threats, cyberbullying, stalking, and the non-consensual sharing of personal information or images.

Although it takes place online, the impact of cyber violence is deeply real. It affects a person’s mental well-being, dignity, safety, and social participation. Survivors often experience fear, anxiety, loss of confidence, and social isolation.

Cyber violence can affect anyone, but women, children, human rights defenders, journalists, and marginalized communities are disproportionately targeted. This form of violence limits freedom of expression and undermines digital inclusion and human rights.

Cyber violence is not acceptable and not harmless. It is a violation of personal rights and, in many contexts, a punishable offense under cyber and criminal laws.

Preventing cyber violence requires awareness, education, responsible digital behavior, and strong reporting and support mechanisms. As a society, we must work together to create safe, inclusive, and respectful digital spaces for all.
